SDG Philanthropy Platform Launches New Website to Connect Global Network of Philanthropists and Social Investors

September 21, 2017

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) lay out an extraordinary but ambitious vision for our future. With a 2.5 trillion funding gap and an amplified need for innovation, philanthropy will have a critical role to play in the realization of the SDGs. Aware of this, the SDG Philanthropy Platform has launched a new website, SDGPhilanthropy.org, during the 72nd Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.  This site will provide stakeholders with vital resources to build and enhance connections among global entities that are committed to the SDGs.

The website launch took place during the side event “Crossing Sectors for Impact: Philanthropy, Resource Innovations, and the SDGs” with panelists Peter Laugharn, CEO of Conrad N. Hilton Foundation; Siddarth Chatterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in Kenya; Marcos Neto, Director of UNDP’s Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development; Melissa Berman, President of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors; among others.

Speaking at the event, Heather Grady, Vice President of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors said, Our new website is a great multi stakeholder tool that allows our global network to catalyze innovation and collaboration in order to accelerate the path to end poverty.

Developed specifically as a community platform, the new SDGphilanthropy.org will facilitate productive collaboration and resource sharing. Using the community tools on the site, philanthropists, foundations, government stakeholders, UN professionals, and social innovators interested in the Global Goals can now for the first time collaborate and engage in direct dialogue with like-minded peers, post updates on SDG initiatives and events, and share best practices and lessons learned.

Website users also have the ability to contact and schedule consultations with SDG Philanthropy Platform team members working on the ground in 8 pilot countries: Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, India, Indonesia, Colombia, Brazil, and the US.

By providing a platform to connect the philanthropic community under the shared mission of SDGs, this new website will help reduce duplication of efforts and leverage resources, increase transparency, facilitate information-sharing, and highlight philanthropy’s essential role in global implementation efforts.
