Convergence: Philanthropy as a Partner in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

September 20, 2016

UN General Assembly Opening Week Side Event

Wednesday, September 21 8:15am – 2:00pm
Ford Foundation, 320 East 43rd Street, New York

In September, world leaders will meet once again in New York for the United Nations General Assembly opening week and other key events, considering challenges and concerting action for the year to come. The world is half a year into the implementation phase of Agenda 2030 – the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – whose ambitious timeline for achievement is less than a generation. The SDG Philanthropy Platform and our expanding network of partners invites you to join us for a day of learning, exchange and partnership-building around the SDGs agenda. This year, the focus will be on how, in these crucial first two years, we can build the foundation for solid progress and ensure no one is left behind. We will bring together leaders in government, philanthropy, the UN system, civil society and business to explore themes including promoting inclusion, reducing inequality, women’s empowerment, education, and approaches to the SDGs like better data systems and impact investing. The convening will also emphasize the ‘universality’ agenda and what it means for SDG planning in the US and Europe, and what governments can do to create an enabling environment for the philanthropy sector and grantees.
